The Celestial Collection

Introducing our Celestial Collection - a limited edition series of Tera Lamps in hand-painted gold leaf, inspired by the world’s oldest star map, the Nebra Sky Disc.

Bronze Age Nebra Sky Disc
The Inspiration

Dating back 3,600 years, the Nebra Sky Disc is considered to be the earliest known depiction of the cosmos. Crafted from bronze and inlaid gold, the ancient artifact maps out a crescent moon, a cluster of stars, and a radiant sun or full moon, framed by golden arcs that trace the angle between the summer and winter solstice. Upon learning about the disc, we were struck by its simple yet profound attempt to map the sky. The human need to understand how things work and our place in nature is an impulse that has guided Ceramicah from the very start and drives everything we do, so this collection is our attempt at capturing that essence.

The Process

Each Celestial Tera Lamp begins as raw clay, hand-thrown on the wheel to form its sculptural base and shade. Once dried, every curve is carefully carved by hand, revealing the constellation-like motifs that define the series. The pieces are then bisque fired and glazed in a soft green patina before a final layer of 18k gold luster is hand-painted into each carved shape. Finally, the lamps are wired and assembled by hand in our Los Angeles studio. Each step is a testament to our ethos of slow, intentional, detailed craft.
